BRAIN TO BODY® SITE GLOSSARY

Alternative medicine

Alternative medicine encompasses a broad range of health care practices, products, and therapies that are not typically considered part of conventional medicine. These practices often draw on traditional knowledge, holistic health principles, and natural remedies, offering treatments that aim to treat the whole person rather than just symptoms.

Common types of Alternative medicine include herbal medicine, acupuncture, homeopathy, naturopathy, chiropractic, and various forms of mind-body therapies such as meditation and yoga. These modalities are often used in complement to conventional medical treatments, in what is known as complementary and Alternative medicine (CAM).

The appeal of Alternative medicine lies in its focus on natural healing, personalized care, and the treatment of underlying causes of illness, rather than just managing symptoms. While the effectiveness of some alternative therapies has been scientifically validated, others lack rigorous scientific evidence and are therefore subject to controversy within the medical community.
